    Default Critical Mass vs Mammoth

    Critical Mass vs Mammoth

Since Cheap Discount Supplements opened their phone lines last year we have been inundated with phones calls from customers asking the difference between Interactive Nutritions Mammoth and Applied Nutritions Critical Mass.

On the surface the two products look very similar. Both offer a very high number of calories per serving and each ones claims to have the weight-gainer formula perfected. But which one should be earning your purchase. Below we will be looking at the compounds found within each weight gainer and helping you assess which will work best to aid your training goals.

    Why Take Weight Gainers?

Weight Gainers are used first and foremost by those who find it difficult to increase not only muscle size, but body weight in general. Typically these people will own a very high metabolism which demands an increased number of calories be consumed on a daily basis. Failure to do so will result in hard earned muscle tissue being burned away for energy. Weight Gainer Proteins contain high quantities of calories to aid with this issue, and both shakes in question today offer almost a thousand calories per serving!

The nutrient breakdown in Applied Nutrition Critical Mass and Interactive Nutrition Mammoth is split between Protein, Fats and Carbohydrates. Protein is essential in building muscle. At the most basic genetic level, you muscles are made of protein. When you exercise your muscle fibres are damaged and consumed protein is required to allow recovery and growth. Carbohydrates are used by the body for energy creation, and convert into glycogen which allows for movement. A lack of carbohydrates can result in a tired feeling, and ultimately muscle tissue being broke down and used for energy. Finally, Fats are essential in the creation of hormones which send signals around your body to begin the recovery and growth process.

The main aim in all instances of bodybuilding and living a healthy lifestyle is ensuring adequate levels of Protein, Carbohydrates and Fat are consumed to allow for growth. Hard Gainers can struggle here as a high metabolism burns through much of that consumed. Enter the solution: Weight Gainer!

    Interactive Mammoth

Interactive Mammoth has been a very competent and well priced weight gainer for many years now. In many respects you get what you pay for. The price of £29.99 (correct at time of print) earns you a high calorie blend of 50 grams of a premium quality, multi-blend protein (Whey protein concentrate, total milk protein, pure egg protein), MCT sourced fats and a fast releasing carbohydrate content. At first glance Mammoth offers a higher calorie level to that of its competitor but a second look will highlight that this is due to higher levels of Fat. At this price Mammoth is certainly the cheapest option for those looking to replace and add nutrients to their diet, though the breakdown of these nutrients is not necessarily the optimal. If you are looking to gain weight it is also worth considering the quality of the nutrients you consume.

    Applied Nutrition Critical Mass

Critical Mass is a couple of £££ more expensive than its competitor and at first glance also contains fewer calories per serving. With this in mind you may wonder why anybody considers this as an option. Well, first of all, if we take a more in depth look at the nutrient quantities we will notice that Critical Mass offers both higher levels of Protein and Carbohydrate, and a lower level of Fats. As Fat contains more calories per gram (9kcal per gram opposed to the 4kcal of protein and carbs) this results in a higher number of overall calories in the Mammoth. The higher levels of protein and carbohydrate are actually more useful to your body however, so in this instance the Critical mass wins out. The Fat blend in Critical Mass is also sourced from healthier sources including Flax seed and CLA. In fact, once you start to breakdown the higher quality of Critical Mass you being to see that they are spending much more on creating their blend and trying to give their fans the most well rounded weight gainer available.

    So which should I buy?

The answer to this question ultimately lies in your motivations. The cheapest option is Interactive Nutrition Mammoth and it certainly offers enough calories to quantify its generous price. Applied Nutrition Critical Mass offers a much more developed formula however and it is in this writers opinion that it is worth the extra money. I heard that Mammoth 2500 is actually fake on the market right now. Is that true? Can someone clarify this? As the last tub I used I got way fat, which never used to happen, PLUS, I read all over Monster that you have to be careful of fakes on the industry. WTF is that all about? This is meant to be supplements, not clothing lines from Turkey?!

ROFLMAO - mate, there's NO comparision. Mammoth 2500 went down hill about two years back. The brains behind the operation I heard jumped ship and created the Critical Mass 2700 which has moved from strength to strength with constant innovation.

Ive noticed there is a serious drop in interest these days in Mammoth 2500. Then I saw this and just wondered, do the consumers actually even know, or care, what product they're getting so long as they get the best? Mammoth 2500? We're going to start a Facebook and Twitter discussion I think on the Critical Mass versus Mammoth 2500 debate.

Well sure, I read that debate, and duly noted that there are too many tubs of fake mammoth 2500 out there, so most people are choosing Critical Mass 2700. What I am interested to note is what people think about Atlas Super Weight Gainer 1500. Is it too cheap and discounted to actually contain any quality ingredients, or is SuperWeight Gain 1500 actually any good at what it claims to do? Superweight gainer seems to get good reviews online?

Atlas Superweight Gainer 1500 is good actually for the cheaper budget end of the market. Tasts ok, mixes like crap, and the protein isn't the best, however, you do get OVER 100g of protein per serving...so that's incredibly decent. Good company that make it, and you're not paying insane importation fees as you do for USA brand supplements. Always find SuperWeight Gainer 1500 gets good reviews online. But it's a totally different league to Critical Mass 2700.

Found this interesting article here on Mammoth 2500, and another one here about Mammoth 2500, both seem to suggest that this weight gain protein is actually a really good product.

I have used most weight gainer protein shakes over the years, Mammoth, CM 2700... Hypergain. I think overall the best value for money product was the hypergain as it tasted great, came in a bigger bag and had added creatines/glutamine etc.
